Legendary Nigerian rapper and YBNL Records owner Olamide opens up on why he decided to sign artists like Fireboy DML and Asake to his label.

The rapper reveals in a recent podcast interview, why he decided to sign artists to his label.

Olamide, who established his record label YBNL in 2012, has been instrumental in molding the career of many successful Nigerian artists, such as Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, Fireboy DML and Asake.

In recent time, Olamide’s empire has grown so big that his present artists Asake and Fireboy DML are among the most successful new-age musicians out of Africa.

While talking on a podcast with a UK music journalist, Olamide explains that he decided to sign new artists when he started getting too much money and didn’t know what to do with it.

He further reveals that helping new artists achive their aims is his own little way of giving back to the society.

‘I just started stacking up money and the money was becoming too much for me. I was like, “yo, I don’t have anything to do with this money. I need to sign new guys. Let me spend money on people”’, he said.
