Tiego Moseneke Short Biography
Tiego Moseneke is a well-known South African lawyer and advocate. He was born on August 4, 1963, in the township of Ga-Madiba, in the Limpopo province of South Africa. Moseneke is best known for his work in the South African legal system, including his role in drafting the country’s post-apartheid constitution.
Moseneke grew up in Ga-Madiba, where he attended school until the age of 15. He then became involved in the anti-apartheid movement and was arrested in 1976 for his participation in a student protest. He spent the next ten years in prison, where he continued his education and became interested in law.
After his release from prison in 1986, Moseneke attended the University of South Africa, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990. He went on to study law at the University of Pretoria, where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1992.
Moseneke began his legal career as an attorney in private practice, but soon moved on to work for the African National Congress (ANC) legal department. In 1994, after the end of apartheid, he was appointed to the Constitutional Court of South Africa, where he served as a judge until 2016.
During his time on the Constitutional Court, Moseneke played a key role in shaping South Africa’s post-apartheid legal system. He was involved in drafting the country’s constitution, which is widely regarded as one of the most progressive in the world, and was also involved in several landmark cases, including the 2005 ruling that same-sex marriage should be legal in South Africa.
Moseneke is married to Lwazi Pumelele Bosman, who is also a lawyer. The couple has three children together.
Moseneke has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the Order of the Baobab, one of South Africa’s highest civilian honors, which he received in 2009. He has also been recognized by the University of South Africa, which awarded him an honorary doctorate in law in 2015.
